New York designer Michele Varian is drawn to natural materials, so she says that unlike other lighting designers, all the metal components are solid (not plated or finished) brass, copper or steel. The sculptural Mala "bead" pendants were inspired by Romanian artist Constantin Brancusi and modern primitive design elements, created with simple geometric shapes and solid spun metal shades. The unfinished metal will gently patina with time.
